Gatekeeper bad password

Lately I have been getting a lot of "bad password" when trying to login to gatekeeper for wingate v5. Is it possible that Adaware or Spybot are deleting the file holding the password for any reason? I know for a fact that Spybot has been deleting the file holding the password for Remote Administrator server, which I am told that this has been corrected in the latest updates.

Will your solution of deleting the administrator account apply here as well?

The password is stored in the registry. So, normally, that should not be changed by other applications.

In this situation, are you able to login, then unable, then able again? Deleting the Administrator account will 'reset' the password, as the account will be re-created with a blank password.

Spybot is deleting a key in the registry, unfortunately I cannot go back to see it now, because I have uninstalled it and want to reinstall to see what exceptions are enabled as standard as I had unclicked all the expceptions myself. As for Wingate, I can do a system restore and I would be able to login normally. I only noticed that the problem could be caused by spybot when I opened the + for "haxdoor-h" shown by Spybot as malware and found that is was for the RAdmin system file. Deleting it made the radmin server (remote administrator) accessible without a password.

After I reinstall Spybot I will scan and delete any keys shown and immediately check Wingate to see if I can open it again, if not I will notify you, the key entry that is being deleted.

Wow. That makes Spybot sound very very dangerous. Thanks for the feedback on that; it'll be a good thing for us to test as well.

Hi all,

Have five V6.0.3 Wingate installations recently with Spybot S&D, none has had this issue even after full updates and system immunisation.

as Nev has posted, i never encounter any problem Spybot S&D... see my sig below? :)

there are modified versions of Spybot out there... try getting the legit one from http://www.spybot-updates.com

I have downloaded the latest SpyBot again and installed it and scanned. No keys found this time. Going to the restore section the only possible key I find is under the heading: SafeGuardProtect.veevo and a registry key under it HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\typelib\{.....}, I don't know if this has any relation to wingate, or something to do with the veevo player.

In any case haxdoor-h is there also, but this has been corrected in the latest update and is not being removed any more.

If you have any input on this matter, kindly post it.

WinGate's passwords (If using the WinGate userdatabase) is stored under it's own registry key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Qbik Software\WinGate).

That clears that, at least. <phew> Is it possible that somebody in the organisation was settting up or editing policies, etc. ?
