AVG

Hiya I have installed Wingate but am having trouble configuring AVG to update. Originally all 7 machines could access the internet via the router an ADSL Vigor 2800. I have installed Wingate and all the PCs can access the internet via wingate and the Java logon. I have now locked down the site and done a strict rule to bind only the Wingate Server ip and mac to access the Web via the router. However AVG will not update via the proxy settings.

If I disable the strict bind on the router then all the AVG applications on the machines can update, but then I may as well not bother with Wingate!!

help please

Hi Christian,

First off, if disabling the ip/mac restriction on the Vigor router allows your clients to update again, it sounds like your client computers still have their default gateways pointing to the router. Since WinGate is the only computer that can connect through the router, your client computers will need to connect through WinGate, so change their default gateways to point to the WinGate computer.

Also, you should create an override in your WWW Proxy Policies to allow unauthenticated access to the AVG update sites.

- Gatekeeper -> Services -> WWW Proxy server -> Policies
- Click Add
- Goto the Advanced tab
- Select Specify which requests this recipient has rights for
- Click Add Filter
- Click Add Criterion
- Enter [This criterion is met if] [HTTP URL] [contains] [grisoft.com]
(note that this is for the free version of AVG. The professional version may have a different or multiple update sites)
- Click OK
- Repeat the above 4 steps for any other update sites that AVG uses
- Click OK, then Apply
