Client error

Dec 15 04 6:24 am

hello, i am using wingate 6.0.3 with the trial licence, i only have 3 clients machines using opera and IE 6. The first pages i open are right, but afeter some time, about 3 min, i only see on the screen "client error" in the opera navigator and nothing in the ie 6. Is this because of the licence? How can i fix this problem?
The clients are configurated using the internet options/connections...

First step is to enable debug logging in the WWW Proxy Service (Services tab in GateKeeper) and the same for the DNS/WINS Resolver (System tab in GateKeeper).

The log files are in the \logs subfolder in the WinGate folder (Usually C:\Program Files\WinGate). When the problem occurs, stop the browser and go to a reasonably distinctive site. (Pick a site you'd normally not visit in your regular browsing). Then, check those logfiles for the references to that site.

You should be able to find a reason for the problem. (Some error message). If you can post that here; it'll help find out where the problem is and where to get started.

Other information that will be useful is: "How do you connect to the Internet" and a brief description of the network layout. (E.g. are the clients assigned with DHCP, etc.)

thanks for your support, i did what you said, i must tell your that i have a machine called promas2000 which is the domain cotroller and the DNS server. The ip of that machine is 192.168.0.100. Wingate is installed in a machine with a static ip 192.168.0.152 and 172.16.0.13. The way i connect to internet is by mean of another proxy wich is in the 172 network.

Now the error codes:

I forgot to tell that i am using DHCP, and this service is given for the machine promasdb(192.168.0.100), wich is at the same time DNS and Domain Server. Active Directory is also running in that computer.

Probably a DNS loop (Or a configuration problem related to it) from those logfiles.

First, go into "Advanced Options" on the Start Menu and switch to the DNS Servers. Add the AD Server's IP to the list of ignored DNS Servers.

See if that helps.

Dec 17 04 3:29 am

thanks pascal, but could you be a bit more specific? I mean where is the advanced options? i have seen the menu options/advanced in wingate 6.0.3 but it has nothing about DNS.

Theres is a place where i can add DNS servers in DNS/WINS resolver service, do i have to add the ip of my DNS server?

And what's the IP that i have to add? the one of my real DNS server or the one of my wingate proxy?

thanks for your support i really apreciate it!

Go into Start -> Programs -> WinGate. There is a program called "Advanced Options". Physically on disk it will be located in <WinGate> where <WinGate> is the folder you installed WinGate to. (This defaults to C:\Program Files\WinGate). The filename is WGOptions.exe.

When you run it, on the left-hand tab there is a list of options. The bottom-most group is WinGate - the bottom-most in the WinGate group is DNS Servers. If you click on that, the right-hand pane will change to show the list of DNS Servers.

There, you enter the internal IP address of your Active Directory Server.

thanks, i did what you said, and i think the things are going good, but i have some questions, i have the DNS and the DHCP services unabled in wingate, do i have to enable them? I was reading the wingate help file and it says that if i am running wingate in an active directory enviroment i have to add an entry in the forwarders tab of the propertyes of the DNS server (the machine where the active directory is), it says that i have to add the ip of the wingate machine. I have this option unabled so is this important?

Once again thanks for your support.

No, that's not required then.
