Requesting help: WinGate killed all net acceess from my PC

Mar 29 08 3:09 pm

Hello!

I'm currently posting this from my mac, since it is the only machine in this room that can access the net.

Background:
I wanted to try WinGate, so I installed it. After figuring out that I did not want it, I uninstalled the software (configured as a client). I never connected to a server. After uninstall I cannot browse the web, norton 2008 Internet security tells me that my network settings are wrong, MSN refuses to connect and mIRC cannot connect either.

Though I can ping google via cmd.exe, but that's it.

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate (x64), fully updated.

Does anyone know how I resolve this issue?

I don't even know how you installed WinGate on Vista64, since I expect the installer should not have run, or at least been unable to

a) install the WinGate service; or
b) install the WinGate driver

Neither of these function on Vista with the 6.x installer.

What happened with the install process? Do you see any files in the

windows\System32\Drivers

folder, or any system folder called Qbikhk??.sys? If so, try deleting this file and rebooting

I got it to work now. Tried to use Vista's own uninstaller (add/remove software) instead of WinGate's. Perhaps you should put some OS check into the installer, because it can be installed. (no idea if it is successfull, but it can be installed :P)
