Locked Out of Gatekeeper?

Apr 11 05 10:58 pm

Guys.

I was trying to get the www service to authenticate users when they go onto the internet earlier and gatekeeper advised me that i had to enable remote control protocol for one of my cards, which i did.

however, when i've restarted the wingate services and tried to get back into it, i now get a message saying, "there was a problem connecting to your server. connection refused by the server. check your server name and port number."

THANKFULLY all the services are started and running, i just can't admin anything right now which is a little stressful.

balls.

OK. thankfully i bound it to the local IP, so i used that detail to log in and add back in localhost..

that was a buttclenching moment though..

<grins> It would be. Glad you were able to login though.

One suggestion is to setup the Remote Control Service first to ensure that it won't be affected by System Policies. E.g. give yourself access to login and then set it to ignore system policies.

That way, you'll always have rights no matter what you do with policies. That won't affect bindings, but you can easily get around that by doing a registry export before getting involved in major restructuring. This can be done from GateKeeper -> Options -> Advanced.

Good plan.

incidentally, can i also move the cache and history locations to another location?

Yes you can. For history you can do it by setting it in the UI. (You must be logged in locally to edit that setting with 6.x and later of GateKeeper as you browse to the new location).

For caching this is done through registry keys, however. If you're familiar with the registry, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Qbik Software\WinGate\Cache and set the "CacheDirectory" value.

Heh still running 5.23 as i'm totally old school and don't have the time to clone the box and update wingate and face the possibility of it not working. 5.23 is pretty stable, you guys did well with the last 5 release.

i will check the cache through regedit. cheers chap.
