Internet balance $$$$$

Apr 19 05 4:06 pm

Hello all,
I was woundering if there was a way that you could make wingate let each user have a certain amount of dollars per day.
So each user gets $1 per day which is like 4MB (e.g.)

Can you limit users by money balances like in SINA?

Thanks,

Jason

If you open the User's config you should find an "Accounting" page. That is where you can setup their allowed limits. You can then simply use policy (System or otherwise) to restrict the amount of traffic they are allowed to have.

In most cases you'd set something like: "This right is granted if the user's account balance > 0".

The only snag is you need to manually reset the account balance each day and you have to ensure that the users are actually being identified (Either by assumption or by authentication) so that WinGate can distinguish between them.

Thanks but how

Ok,
BUt i have done the "Accounting" thing,
Didn't understand the policies bi and the "Users balance is > 0" bit.

Could you explain in more detail!!

THanks,

Jason

Hope you don't mind, but I'll refer you to a post that details how to setup policies and explains the mechanism in a bit more detail. It is quite complex but surprisingly powerful.

Once you've gone through that and have the basic concepts down pat, you want to create a policy for your user (Or Everyone if the same policies apply to everyone). Then, switch to the "Advanced" page of that policy and specify a filter with a single criteria, that criteria being "User account balance > 0".

That should give you all the info you need to get it going.

If you get stuck you can email me your registry setup. (Export via GateKeeper -> Options -> Advanced -> Save Registry Settings). I will then look at what you have done and will make some changes and mail that back to you to be reimported.

What about the other options

What you said makes sense,
I add the filter "Filter 1
Then i click "Add Criterion",
And it comes up with this screen saying
Note: this is a layout of the window i get
_____________________________________________________________
Criterion X
_____________________________________________________________

o This criterion is met if
0 This criterion is NOT met if

| Client IP number | | Equals | |(This is a text box |

_____________________________________________________________

What do i do from here, with the "User account balance > 0".
The Client IP number | and | Equals | are drop down menus but i don't see anything that fits.

Basically, how do iput in the " Client IP number | | Equals |"?

Thank you,

Jason

You need to look in the drop-down combo boxes. Their content varies depending on where you are accessing it from, but I suspect in all cases you should have "User: Account Balance". On the System Policies it is third or fourth from the bottom.

The comparisons (Less than, greater than, contains, equals, etc.) varies depending on what variable is selected (Some cannot have less than / greater than selected) so you need to change the first drop down to "User: Account Balance" and the second one to "greater than" and then enter 0 in the text box. Then set the text box above to "This criterion is met if".

No sorry,
As soon as i posted the reply, i noticed the slide bars on the drop down menus,

Sorry for wasteing your time.

BUt, i have authentication set on the WWW Proxy Server, as the Basic not NTLM, but all users seem to still be using the internet freely, and on GateKeeper the status does not show their usernames when displaying what they are viewing.
When i first set the authentication to Basic, users were met with the login screen that is native to Internet Explorer (not the JAVA one) but now they don't.
Idon't want to use the JAVA method because that interupts other programs from using the internet unless you are already logged in.

What do you reccomend?

Thanks,

Jason

No time wasting at all, love to help. (As you can see, I love the forum). Just didn't understand the question fully.

What does their session types show as when they are surfing? Is it being picked up as proxies connections? (Or intercepted NAT or WGIC) or is it showing as NAT sessions?

The names

Apr 21 05 1:55 pm

Well it displays this,

203.62.29.3
http://www.ebay.com/
e.t.c.

The ip address is my laptop and the www.ebay.com is the test page.

I am not sure how to tell what connection it is,
It is definately through the www proxy server

Is it possible that they have ticked "Save this password"? One other thing, HTTP Basic Auth only grants you a level of assumed. Your policies will probably have "assumed" as the requirement, but it could be that the machine in question already has an assumed status. If that is the case, WinGate will not auth as the machine already has a level high enough to meet what the policy requires of it.

Btw. Is your network running public IPs on the internal LAN?

IPS

Our network hav all address starting with
203.62.29.???

But it is an internal network!!!!

About the authentication thing,
THere is nothing in the "Assumed Users" window and the Save password option for Internet Explorer has not been chacked.
On the policies for the WWW proxy server, i have Only one and it is:
Everyone
Must Be Authenticated
And the Advanced tab Account balance settings set.

Do i have to do this for system policies as well?

Easiest might be for you to save your WinGate registry and send it to me. I'll load it in a WinGate installation here and can then tell you exactly what changes to make.

You can export it through GateKeeper -> Options -> Advanced.

I have e-mailed the registry file to the address at the bottom of your posts.

Thanks very much

And I replied to the g-mail address you asked for replies to be redirected to. I got the email, but without an attachment.
