Hi everyone. I`m wondering if anyone else have this same question.
I recently install Wingate 5.0.7 in my office, trial mode. Everithing work fine, but one of my partners came to use eMule client, to download music and sort of stuff.
eMule use ports 4662 (TCP) 4671 (UDP). The PC with this installed can`t have access to this ports. When I check the Gatekeeper, the firewall was blocking this ports, incoming and outgoing traffic.
Using a LinkSys router, I just have to set the port triggering in this ports to have redirectioned traffic directly to the Pc client, no matter what IP it have (is using DHCP).
In Wingate, I can`t do that. I have to redirect the traffic in this port TO an fixed IP, but another soft in the same PC need to use DHCP, so, the IP is changing constantly.
I try to set up the firewall in this ports. I enabled the incoming and outgoing traffic, but wingate keep the firewall on it. Also, the firewall block any coneccion using port 4662 in the remote PC, no matter what port is trying to access in the Wingate server.
There is any work around this? Maybe anyone have eMule installed, or have similar troubles that can help me.
Regards.

jason,
how did you configured ur firewall?
try this...in wingate console open extended network setting and go to firewall section. Click add, fill up the port 4662-4662, & check the TCP then click OK. Again, click add, fill up the port 4671-4671, & check the TCP & UDP then click OK & exit. These settings are works fine for me.

4662 is a known default port for eMule/eD2k. Just make sure that the ports opened are what the software uses since some emule variants uses random UDP port. And you can also REDIRECT packets to the IP that need it.
Just FYI, due to the nature of agressive/abundant connections needed in some P2P Software (eMule / eD2k / ShareAZA / etc); Your server may experience a total disconnections to the internet --Usually every 12 to 15 hours. I just figured it out a while ago, that this is caused by a client that uses P2P.
It is quite troublesome that you need to reboot the server everytime this happened. Another solution is to schedule a reboot every x hours before the disconnections occured. Somebody has better solutions?
I hope WinGate Team can looked into this abundant connections issue.

jason,
sorry...not in firewall section but in port security section.

Hi,
I'm running Wingate 5.0.10 on W2K pro SP4 and I run Overnet client 0.45 on one of the clients (using port redirections for the ports it uses) .
I have connection loss too and I also the WG server crashes with the message:
*** STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x00000000,0x00000002,0x00000001,0xBFE7341F)
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
*** ADDRESS BFE7341F BASE AT BFE6D000, DATESTAMP sf852ad2 - QBIKHK2K.SYS
After restarting I see the "Save Dump" (ID:1001)-event and one or more of these messages in the event log:
-Event 2019, Source: Srv, Message: The server was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool because the pool was empty.
-Event 2021, Source: Srv, Message: The server was unable to allocate a work item 4 times in the last 60 seconds.
Could I have the same problem ?
QBik: Can something be done to fix this? (and if it can: is it already fixed in WG5.1 ?)
grz,
Remco

Thanks for the advice Keeper30. I follow instruccions and voila! it works. But, as say VreebieS, it generate a lot of connections, and slow down traffic. I have to reboot very often, so, I decided to restrict use of emule. Hope, that Wingate Team look into this issue.
Thank you guys for the tips.

jason,
Right now, i'm using windows server 2003 with the specification of P4 1.5 ghz & 900 mhz, 128mb rdram & 384 mb sdram both wingate 5.1. And it works fine for me without rebooting almost 1 month from now upon release of wingate 5.1...I look up to the windows task manager console in processes section. The overnet cpu resource consumes only 1 to 10% and 80% system idle process.
Thanks...

Thanks a lot, keeper30 for the tip. I'm now testing a W2K3 server with Wingate 5.2, and seems the problems is gone. But, for now, is only testing till i'm sure nothing goes wrong.
