norton antivirus internet worm protection

May 11 05 9:28 am

Recently, after updating to the latest WinGate version, I've started getting an alert from norton antivirus internet worm protection that a computer is attempting to access my computer. The remote access warning appears directed at the wingate program, i.e. it says it is attempting to access the wingate.exe program in the file/directory where it is located on my C: drive (the wingate engine.) Norton is properly confugured to allow wingate access to the internet, yet I continually get this warning. This is a nuisance as I must continually permit the operation. Is there anything that's changed in the latest update that might be causing this?

I have downloaded Nortons 2005, and will let you know the results.

I have seen the warning once in the last few days, and that was in the test lab when I had a PC running WinGate, set as a default gateway to another WinGate machince..

It was trying to be contacted via the internal network on port 520, which is used by RIP (Routing Information Protocol).

Where does your Norton Worm Protection say the remote location is and the port it is trying to connect to? The internal network on port 520?

Summary from support ticket: AllGlass indicated the problem was solved by upgrading his WinGate Internet Client (WGIC) to the same version as the WinGate server.

Please email me again as I have additional information regarding this problem. Seems that this fix _did not_ correct the problem. I have done some additional research and believe I have both solved the mystery and resolved the problem.
