Computers not shown in network pane

May 19 05 4:14 am

Hello!

I'm still running WG 5.2.2 and it works fine, but there is a slight problem.

I work in a domain with a few computers and one Windows 2000 server with Active Directory installd and WG also run on this machine. When I look under the network pane, I just can see the server name. Once I've also seen a computer which doesn't belong to the domain (but is connected to the network) and no more.

This looks a bit confusing when I read, but what I mean is that at any time there's only one computer visible in the networks pane.
This is a recent problem, because before I had most of the computers in the network visible there. The thing I've done since is to change ISP to one that requires a dynamic IP on the card that is connected to the DSL modem.

All services is bound to the dynamic IP address.

How do I get the computers back to the network pane?

Thanks!

Hi

Those computers are learned by WinGate, then displayed in the network pane by a couple of different methods.

1. If you have it enabled in the DNS resolver, WinGate will periodically (once every 10 min) enumerate the local network, using Windows Networking APIs. If for any reason this fails (can be due to a number of reasons, including credentials of the WinGate.exe process in an Active Directory), then it won't find anything there.

2. It intercepts packets on port 137, and learns of machines by that method. This means that machines that broadcast their name when they start up or shut down will be learned of.

In the end, there is no real problem or loss of real functionality in WinGate if you can't see these computers, you can always go into Network Neighbourhood instead, they are displayed there for informational purposes only, but their absence usually does not indicate any problem.

Thank you Adrien!

Then I know how to get them there. Also good to know that it ain't no problem if they aren't there.

Thanks!
