How to control internet access by using IP or computer name

Apr 14 08 9:49 pm

Hi,

If our method to let user access internet is based on ip or computer name, how to prevent these IPs or computer names from using by other that not allow to surt net ? We found out that if other change their computer name or ip according to those that allow to surf internet then they can surf internet anytime.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

The only thing I can think of is to use Group Policy on the client computers to deny users' access to the configuration areas after setting the IP address and name you expect.

Hi,

We have to give client pc's admin right since they're engineer and need to configure their pc in order to communicate/troubleshoot machine issues. Is there any way to prevent it ?

Unless they know how to change Group Policy they will have to know how to change the configuration.

One thing you could do is lock down the IPs that WinGate will work for in policy.

Then if a user changes their IP, they won't get access. Since they can't change their IP to one that is in use by someone else, it should be possible to lock it down to the list of in-use IPs only.

Otherwise you'd need to use MAC address for policy, which is unreliable in 6.x due to the way WinGate obtains this information.

Alternatively you could force authentication.
