FTP proxy out

Jun 17 05 7:20 am

First the background - We're using Wingate to proxy our protected Web servers to connect to a handful of resources on the internet. Otherwise, our web servers can not route to the Internet. For example, to accomplish UPS order tracking the web server makes a call to UPS for the information.

Now the problem - We want to use the same proxy server to allow outgoing FTP antivirus updates for the central AV server. The AV server will make the call to the wingate server, which will proxy the request out to the internet. I can's seem to get this to work. Any ideas?

How does that machine connect out through WinGate? By direct proxy connection? If so - have you configured the application downloading the AV database appropriately?

The connection method is built into the Symantec Control Center application. It says that it's FTP, and it's connecting to ftp.symantec.com.

I tried using the method you described from Wndows command prompts on a couple machines behind the Wingate server, but the connections to Symantec's ftp server always time out. I can open a command Window on the Wingate server and connect directly via the the external interface, so I know it's not IP filtering on my routers.

Thanks,
Daris

Hmmm. Can you use any form of FTP (To anywhere) from the client machines?
