System Policies Bug

Jul 04 05 9:40 pm

If I were to block machines using System Policies using IP Addresses I am successful but if I were to block machines using their NetBIOS names the server doesn't block the machine. How can I block a machine using System Policies?

The best way to do this would be to use WinGate's DHCP. WinGate will only know a machine's NetBIOS name if it assigns the IP address via DHCP.

Alternatively, you could create assumptions based on IP address and then create a ban policy that way.

ban machines from internet?

Are you trying to ban the machines from having any type of connection or only from the internet?

If it's only from the internet then I would advise creating ban policies in the www proxy server instead of the system.

How can I ban this user using the WWW Proxy Server policy?

You can stop someone from accessing the WWW proxy in a couple of ways.

You could make a location restriction, denying access to a certain IP address, or only granting access to a certain IP/range of IPs

Or you could create an advanced policy to allow or deny certain IP's or MAC addresses, usernames, NetBIOS names etc.

In either case, to do this go to the WWW proxy policies menu, create a new policy and add your banning criteria.
