block messenger access on port 80 or http

Jul 13 05 8:43 am

Hello there.

i'm trying to block access to msn messenger via http and https on port 80

i just create user groups and give access to different services.

Example.

for www proxy server i have created a group called internet and have add the users that have internet access.

i have gone to policies and create some filter like for blocking downloads from any page. i just did that as i'll show below

in the www proxy server i went to policies and then to advanced add a filter and the add a criterion specifyign which request this recipient has rights for and then this criterion isn not met if HTTP url contains downloads

this works fine, But.

now i'm creating another criterion blocking http ulr containing webmessenger and the proxy is not blocking the page.

is there a exact number of filters and criterion to be especified?
cause i have a lot of filters that are working, dont know why this one is not working.

THX
Coyote

all this works just fine.

Hi,

What you need to do is find the URL that messenger connects to, then add that to your policies.

It looks like MSN Messenger is connecting to a URL gateway.messenger.msn.com so create a policy to block access to a URL that contains Messenger
