DSL lost each time Wingate collect email ?

Jul 21 05 4:43 am

i am not an I T person, he's on vacation.

We just switched from dynamic to static IP and i think we lose the dsl connection each time we go to download our email from earthlink ?

Can anybody give me an idea on what to look for ?

When you said that you lost DSL connection - did you refer to the actual loss of the connectivity from the DSL modem/router to the uplink or from, the Wingate machine to the router? How is your DSL bit configured?

We just installed a netopia router and we are having a loss of connectivty from the internet and the router. It seems to happen in sink with our hourly check for email. Can you explain what you mean by DSL bit configured ?

Thanks

Sorry, I had to explain this:

your DSL hardware - is it a standalone box or an internal card? If it is a standalone box, is your computer connected to it with a USB cable or ethernet cable?

ALso, apart from email traffic, do you use this connection for anything else? Like, web browsing?

Yes it is a stand alone box connected to the computer NIC card with a ethernet cable.

We use this connection for direct connection to the Inernet for web browsing.
I think the license is for 6 consecutive connections. We are using V6x.

When the connection is dropped while sending an email, can you surf the Web? Is it just some mail messages that cannot get through?

No there is a loss of connectivity at the router and there is no connection to the internet.

At that point we have to power down the router and restart. That will last maybe one hour. I also have tried restarting the computer. The results are the same.

Does any mail message makes this DSL connection to go down or some particular messages?

I don't know. We have our email set to retrieve on the hour. If I am on I am always taken out. It seems to me that it has notthing to do with the messages. More to do with a confilct when it goes to collect the email ?

Can you please create a support ticket and send us in your WinGate Configuration Report and the WinGate Registry (you might want to zip them up).

Can you let me know if you received the config files ?

Aye, we've got the files - thanks! Now, let's make a quick summary of the situation:

Your networking works fine (browsing, other connectivity). Then, when a mail message is to be sent, DSL connection goes down (regardless of the mail message context or destination addresses) and cannot be restored until the router is rebooted. Is this description accurate enough?
