Update from v5.2.2 to v6.0.4 - Connection problems

Aug 23 05 8:11 pm

Dear Sirs,

I tried to upgrade from v5.2.2 to 6.0.4. The update process seemed ok and all the old configurations (users, dial connection etc.) were maintained. Unfortunately it seems there is no way to access the internet from the client machines. I have experienced the following strange behaviours:

1. It is impossible from client machines to access the internet (both with or without WWW Proxy). The server machine will not dial any available connection when the client machine tries to access the internet (explorer via or without proxy, email...).

2. PINGing the server machine (192.168.1.1) from a client machine is OK at the very beginning. But as soon as I force to dial a connection from Wingate itself (this works OK) the server is not seen anymore with PING. Instead from the server I can ping the client computers.

3. Basically I can only access the internet from the server machine (pretty useless of course). WWW proxy is set to 127.0.0.1 and when I open internet explorer Wingate correctly uses the default ADSL connection.

Any hint in order to make Wingate v6 working properly?

Thank you

1. Check that the network card pointing towards the LAN is marked as internal, and the network card / modem pointing towards the internet is marked as External, as show in image below. (GateKeeper --> View menu --> Network)

2. If you have a Realtek 8029 network card, please see this post: http://forums.qbik.com/viewtopic.php?p=17987#17987
(To check, (Windows) Start menu --> run --> cmd --> ipconfig/all
It will be shown next to the "Description" field.

3. What operating system is WinGate installed on? Any firewalls or security suites enabled?

4. If you are still having issues, can you please supply the forum with an ipconfig/all and a route print?

ipconfig/all (Windows) Start menu --> run --> cmd --> ipconfig/all
route print (Windows) Start menu --> run --> cmd --> route print
(please mask any public IP addresses with an X)

Wingate 6.0.4 works only with ENS disabled

The network card (Digicom 10/100) was marked as external and I changed it to internal. All the other cards are marked as external. I tried to reboot with this configuration but nothing changed (as soon as the server connects to the internet the server is no more seen by the clients with PING - of course no internet access is possible).

Then I tried also the Realtek toggle but the behaviour was identical. Anyhow if I am not wrong the 8029 is a 10Mbit card while ours is a 100Mbit so it could be a 8139 but not a 8029.

Then I tried to uninstall ENS and now everything works OK a part that there is neither firewall nor NAT (only proxy www). The Digicom ethernet card always appear "Disabled" from Wingate (even with ENS not loaded).

There are not other firewalls on the server, only F-Secure antivirus that however I always kept disabled in these tests. The o/s is W98se. Please note that the same sw/hw configuration works without problems with Wingate 5.2.3 (just before upgrading to 6.0.4).
