access to subscription websites

May 15 08 9:57 pm

We are running an evaluation of wingate with a view to our replacement for Winproxy.
Problem: we cannot access an educational subscription website if we go out through Wingate.
The website address returns the normal log on screen, but will not accept our logon dtails (username and password).
It returns the message ( as soon as clicking into the field) "The server could not verify that you are authorised to access the document requested. either you supplied the wrong credentials, or your browser does not understand how to supply the credentials reqd"
The web site is accessible if usergate is disabled or viewed from a machine at another location.
We have cleared the cache on both the physical proxy server and wingate - what else could we try?
Thanks

Hi,

If you are using the Wingate machine can you access the site ok?

What happens from a client machine if you use NAT [direct connection from the browser] to connect, does it authenticate then?

Can you show the forum the URL?

Hi,
I can only access the site using the logon and password from the wingate machine if wingate is diabled, ie its works in the same way as the client machines.
The Web site host has just provided a mirror site for us to try that has the authentication requirement removed, and we can access that site without any problems so it is just the authentication that seems to be hanging it up. They have given me the following dtails re their logon
"The site is controlled by a file called .htaccess (which is built in to all UNIX operating systems, so nothing special there). The password manager is operated by cgi-world dot com and is called password manager. "
Pretty standard stuff I guess?
( Can't post web site - forum policy)

I'd appreciate any help

Hi

Could you submit as a ticket to our support desk and we can get onto it - that will also allow you to post the website you're having a problem with.

Are you using authentication on the WinGate proxy? also, are your users configured to use the proxy or are their connections being intercepted?

Intercepted connections + proxy auth requirements + server auth requirements generally spells problems - it's one of the disadvantages of intercepting connections.

Regards

Adrien

I have found the reason for the problem ...but not the cause
The physical server with the wingate application installed is running Win Server 2K.
Changed installation to a server running Win server 2003 and it works fine??!!
Kaspersky will still not update on schedule though...
