Bandwidth Control: Restrictions

Aug 30 05 11:41 pm

I have this very curious question, under Bandwidth Control specifically on "Restriction", what does "Unrestricted - this will only prioritise traffic" mean? How will this affect the bandwidth of a given port or ip if its implemented?

Unrestricted means that there are no specific limits set for the traffic. The only functional part of the restriction would be its priority value - where traffic with higher priority gets transmitted before lower-priority data. WIngate bandwidth throttling control alos have some specific arrangements to prevent low-priority starvation, when only high-priority traffic gets through.

In short, prioritization allows you to increase throughput for some users by setting their priority higher than others.
