odd thing happening - policy rules failing a second time

Oct 02 08 9:08 pm

This is the second time this odd quark has happened..

I administer the network at a small private college and we give the students internet and put various limits on it since the staff uses the same system. So the students are in two groups and their internet access is limited through the www proxy rules based on their groups. I limit them by authentication level, time, banlist, and access restrictions.

I limit how much they can do on a weekly basis by using the following rule, Not User: bytes sent to client greater than "value" I then have a reset on their account once a week so they gety the set bandwidth per week.
this works quite well, but for some reason it will just stop working and they have unlimited internet access. But if I make a new group with the same restrictions and put the user into the group the restrictions work right away. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Jared

well, I managed to find the solution to my own problem...

I had inserted a second filter and criteria that denied users access if they had a certain name in their netbios and it was causing the bandwidth filter to not function. I just had to add the netbios criteria to the same filter as the bandwidth criteria and it worked.

Maybe someone else will learn something from this so they don't have to learn like I did....
