Does Wingate support content filter other than PureSight?

Nov 11 03 7:39 am

I have downloaded the wingate 30 day demo and the puresight 30 day demo and both are working fine. My problem is that the puresight product is pretty useless in the realworld where you need to block 100% of a sites based on a subject (relying on a service to find those sites). Paying for puresight to block only sex or gambling sites based upon some mathematical equation is trash. What about sports, terrorism, shopping..... etc. Can WinGate support a real content filtering product?

At present Puresight only filters for these two catergories, but in up coming releases more catergories will be added, including those you mentioned. You can also block sites through the Policies option, as well as the black list within Puresight.

Does anybody know of a public free list of "blacklisted" sites (similar to ordb for mail) that could easily be imported so that time isn't wasted doing something so absurd?

normally because of the enormous effort involved in categorising sites etc these services are by necessity not free... however you are talking about a web blacklist service which requires manual indexing etc rather than something which tries to figure out what is going on the same way a human does - by looking at it.

That is the philosophy behind the PureSight product.

If you have any ideas when it comes to the types of service you would like us to support, you could suggest they contact us, or we contact them to get a system working - we are open to new content filtering options.
