VISTA WGIC user authentication

Jan 25 09 10:39 pm

Hello,

we recently purchased Wingate (6.5.1) due to the new VISTA compatibility.
The customer needs to log client and user access. For this purpose we had to use the internal Wingate user database for user authentication.
The Server is installed on an XP PRO SP3 machine wiht 3 NIC
For detailed log functionality we installed the WGIC client on each machine and disabled NAT on the wingate Server.
(NAT is disabled due to the limited logging functionality)
The wingate www and ftp proxy are working in transparent mode and user authentication is forced on the Winsock redirector service.
The proxies don't need user authentication.

Now we have a problem with the WGIC client merely on the VISTA machines.
For the installation we had to disabl UAC otherwise the client won't install at all.
As far as i known from other installations, the user should now be represented with the wingate authentication dialogue each time he tries to access WWW services.
But that is not the case. On XP Clients we have no problem with this feature.

Each time the VISTA machine is restarted, the user is represented with an error message that wglsp.dll is not compatible with VISTA.
(unfortunately i cannot upload any screenshot)

Is ther a known problem with this type of installation, or is possible to get the WGIC Client working on VISTA?

I'm also hoping for the same functionality, but as the help documents explain, WGIC is only compatable with Windows OS's up to and including XP and Server 2003.

The Release notes for WinGate v6.5.0 and v6.5.2 are fairly misleading, stating that WinGate now supports Vista and Server 2008. Perhaps they could be adjusted to reflect that it is only the WinGate Server that is supported on those operating systems, not WinGate Internet Client.

Would save users some headaches if they didnt previously look through the help documents.
