Hi, I would like to enable an encrypted tcp forwarding to a server on my network that is restricted to authenticated users. I wish to do so to encrypt sessions for an unsecure tcp application that will be accessed by users over the internet. I have tried to use WGIC on the client by registering the specific user application , but it appears that WGIC always gets enabled to all system aplications, even though I have unchecked that choice. Can WGIC be set to be active only for registered user applications? Also, when I do make a connection with WGIC active, for example with telnet.exe, I get some junk characters and digits (some sort of session number?), then the connection is dropped after 5 seconds. What else can I look for?

Hi
looks like about 3 things going on in there.
1. WGIC. This doesn't do encryption. It only redirects connections from clients via the Winsock Redirector Service in WinGate.
2. Telnet. What are you telnetting to that gives you that response?
3. Encrypted links. Currently WinGate TCP mapping encryption requires a WinGate at each end of the link. This has been largely superseded by VPN however, since that then supports any IP-based protocol securely between 2 or more sites over the internet.

Adrien

OK, thanks regading the limits of WGIC. I installed a temporary authorization for another Wingate server and was able to set up the type of mapping I need (I'll have to trust it on the encryption as it doesn't indicate any specific type). Strictly for TCP mapping with encryption, will the "client" end need only Wingate standard?
