Hi
I am running the latest version of Wingate using NTLM authentication with ADS. I am running the WWW PROXY SERVER service. I have a policy set to enable a particular group to only have access to this service. I am also using the wingate NAT feature in addition to this service for a different set of users. The NAT setup works perfectly. There is an issue when navigating web pages, it seems to me that the NTLM authentication is not happening quickly enough as the Wingate server is sporadically requesting the users login and password credentials. Also some pages are not being returned in their entirity through the WWW PROXY SERVER. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!

This is a known problem with 6.5.2 and earlier. It has been fixed for the 6.5.3 release.

Hi Paul
We've got a release that's in final testing (looking real good). If you were willing and able, would you be able to confirm it fixes your problem?
If so, I'll send you a link.

Adrien

Hi Adrien,
I have installed 6.5.3 release and this certainly seems to have cured the issue! Thanks for your rapid response and solution it is much appreciated!!
I wonder if you could also give me some advice on the following issue.....
I was reading that there was a problem with nesting groups, I was in fact having this problem but in a slightly different guise. I had made a universal group in our education domain and added a group from our admin domain into it. I then placed the group into a policy under the WWW PROXY SERVER. None of the users in the admin group were recognised or authenticated. Do you think this is a result of the nesting issue or possibly a result of crossing over domain groups?
Many Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,
That's a result of crossing over the domains. WinGate 6.x can only authenticate against the domain in which the WinGate computer is a member. Since the admin group is not on that domain, the users in that group cannot be authenticated.
Our next major version, WinGate 7.x, will support authentication against multiple domains.
