Nortel Connectivity

Sep 14 05 7:18 am

How do I get my 'Nortel Connectivity' VPN to go through Wingate? As it stands now, I have to plug my cable modem straight into my work laptop, disconnecting everyone in the house from the internet. It would be a lot better if I could hook straight up to my exsisting network.

Hi,

You may be able to make a VPN connection through WinGate by making a NAT connection. However WinGate does not support IPSec, so if the VPN requires it then it won't work. Can you try and turn IPSec off on the VPN?

A NAT connection is simply setting the default gateway and DNS server settings on the client machine to the LAN adapter of the WinGate server. NAT connections require two network adapters in the WinGate server and the LAN adapter should be set to internal, the internet adapter should be set to external.

Will wingate ever support IPSec passthrough?

Actually, I think I put you a bit wrong there, if the VPN is using L2TP then it will work through WinGate, so this is in effect IPSec.

I guess the best thing for you to do would be to try to make a NAT connection through WinGate and see if you can connect.
