Wingate 6 Email + iPhone 3G

Jul 04 09 7:18 am

Dear support,

I have Wingate 6 installed and I need to configure an iPhone 3G to receive the emails.

So I configured a POP account in the iPhone and it worked just fine, but when the user uses the Wingate account to access the internet and the iPhone gets the messages, it causes the lock account error message. So I have to stop the Wingate and manually delete the LockFile that is at the user mail directory.

Could you help me to solve this issue ??

Thanks,
Gabriel

Hi

WinGate can only allow one connection to a POP account at the same time, but it sounds like something isn't releasing the lock?

Does this lockfile exist even when no mail client is logged into that account?

Is it the iPhone connection that leaves the lock file there, or do other connections also do it?

Regards

Adrien

Hi Adrien,

I'm using Wingate 6.2.2 (build 1137).
The problem occurs when a user comes to the company and lets the Outlook Express opened.
So when the iPhone and the Outlook try to access the POP3 at the same time the error message starts appearing.
Then I have to manually stop Wingate to delete the lock file.

Thanks,

Hi

It's normal for WinGate to prevent multiple access to the same POP3 account.

However it's not normal to have to stop WinGate to manually delete the lock file afterwards.

I'll have to check the code to make sure what's going on. We did test for this quite a bit.

When you stop WinGate, are there any POP3 sessions showing in GateKeeper?

Hi Adrien,

I'm not sure if there are POP3 sessions in Gatekeeper because of the number of users that I have.
But the problem with the lock file always happened, since I started using Wingate (October 2005).

OK

If there is still a connection to the POP3 server on that maibox, it will keep the lock file. The lock file is meant to be deleted only when the session ends.

you can right-click in the activity screen, and view by service, that will show you all POP3 connections in the same place - may make it easier to see.

Hi Adrien,

I will do some tests in order to see if there are active POP sessions when the problem occurs.

Would it be possible to maintain POP3 e IMAP enabled to solve my problem ?
I could setup the iPhone to access the IMAP and let the Outlook Express accessing the POP3. Do you think it could work ?

Thanks,

each user account / mailbox can only be either POP3 or IMAP.

IMAP however allows multiple concurrent logins, so even just changing to IMAP could help.

iPhones support IMAP as well.
