am using wingate 6.0.0 (Build 984), it was working okay for months. last monday all my pc clients can't sign in at their hotmail email accounts. they are all getting socket error message once they clcik on the sign in tab. what do you think is the problem? can anybody help me regarding this?

I just logged into my Hotmail account via proxied to Version 6.0.4 and worked as expected. I asked a colleague about this and he seems to think something has changed with the Hotmail login, but not sure what. Will have to ask the team if thats the case when they are back in tomorrow... unless anyone else on the forum knows?

In the mean time, can you please turn on the logging for the WWW Proxy Service; we may ask for it tomorrow.

did as instructed but it seems it did not solve the problem...

Hi Becky,

It was not meant to solve the problem; it was to prepare your log files to debug any traffic going through it. If you would like to try something, please navigate too:

(Windows) Start menu --> Programs --> WinGate --> Advanced Options --> Protocol Handlings

Uncheck (clear):
Use MSS checks and Reductions
Analyse MSS

If that does not fix the problem, please check (tick) them again.

Can you post a snippet of the log file that shows the socket error message, please? (As per James's request)

Did you reboot after setting those options?

Can you add in a snippet from your WWW Proxy Log file; the part where it hangs at hotmail.

C:\Program Files\WinGate\Logs\WWW Proxy Server\WWW Proxy server.log

aha!

Looks like WinGate is configured not to allow you to make connections through the WWW proxy to secure sites on that port.

port 443 is the standard port, so it really should be enabled.

Edit the WWW Proxy server, go to the HTTPS tab, and either

a) add port 443 to the list of allowed ports; or
b) select "Allow any port..."
