GateKeeper Problem Connecting to the Server

Hi All,

We upgraded our Wingate 6.X to the latest edition today and have been unable to login into GateKeeper since receiving the following message...

"Problem Connecting to the Server

There was a problem connecting to the server.
Wroong protocol version. Make sure you are
using compatible versions of
WinGate and GateKeeper"

Wingate.exe is file version 6.0.3.1005
GateKeeper.exe is file version 6.6.4.1338

Any advice? We have a complex WinGate configuration which we have not accurately documented so we do not want to simply blow it away.

Hi David

did you get my reply to your support ticket?

You can copy the version of GateKeeper.exe that matches your new installation into another folder and run it from there.

Thanks for your reply. For what you are saying I am guessing the update process we ran yesterday did not run successfully and did no update Wingate.exe. I guess that means I need to get my hands on a version 6.0.3.1005 of GateKeeper.exe to allow me to access Wingate again. Do you know where I can get an old copy of this file?

Only way I can imagine it didn't update WinGate.exe is if it couldn't stop the engine.

however there doesn't appear to be 6.0.3 in there - it's very old.

Can you run the 6.6.4 installer again? It shouldn't require any manual migration after that.

If you stop the WinGate service first, then it should have no trouble replacing the WinGate.exe file. If it still doesn't, there may be some file permissions set on it preventing its deletion?

I have restored a copy of the GateKeeper.exe file from an old backup and I am now able to log into my WinGate!
