Windows asking for password on wingate PC shared folders

Feb 01 11 3:52 pm

I use Wingate 6.6.4 on Windows XP and now the workstations started to ask for password to access the shared folders on WinGate PC.
It used to work, but after a power failure he is denying access to theses folders on the server.
I have already disabled firewall to test, but nothing chaged. But when I shutdown Wingate engine it no more asks for the password.

Thanks,
Breno

Hi

this commonly happens in explorer when it tries to use HTTP to access a resource.

How are you entering the servername and share name into explorer?

Adrien

Hi Adrien,

We enter the name with the usual syntax: "\\servername\folder", as we have always done.
I tested changing the web server setting on the www proxy server instead "reject request" and it stopped asking for the password. But none of the other options serves to us.

Thanks,
Breno

Hi

can you try using the IP of the server instead?

When I use the IP number it asks for the password too.

Windows file sharing happens over TCP/UDP port 445. Do you have any services in WinGate either running on, or transparently intercepting this port?

I would be interested in seeing a packet capture of this problem both with WinGate enabled, and then disabled for comparison. Are you familiar with using packet capturing software (such as Wireshark)?

I dont't know exactly how, but the problem stopped suddenly when I deactivated and reactivated the Wingate firewall.
Anyway, thnaks for the help.
