No DNS resolves

Feb 01 11 11:02 pm

I installed WG 6.6.4 on a new mashine running vista bussiness 32bit (fresh installation). Unfortunately i forgot to disable Win firewall before i start the installation of WG. During installation win firewall interrupted the prosses and ask if i want to block or allow this program to access internet, i answer yes allow . when the mashine restarted i disabled win firewall and opened my browser and i saw the initial page.
From the options menu of firefox i chose to use proxy 127.0.0.1 port 80.
and since then i never show any page.... the broswer respond no resolve name. But also i get the messeges from the client computers.
This mashine has 2 NICs one for internet the other for the LAN. Proxy server has configured to intecept connections made on port 80.
The activity pane saws the page that the broswser try to access but nothing else.
Any idea please

Thanks

Hi Vasilis

WinGate uses its own DNS resolver to resolve names to IP addresses.

the WinGate DNS resolver uses the DNS servers known to the host OS (e.g. in the TCP/IP properties of your network adapters).

Can your WinGate computer resolve names? E.g. does a ping work, such as "ping www.wingate.com"?

Are you on an Active Directory? If so, does your AD DNS server forward out to the internet somehow for internet-based DNS lookups?

Thanks Adrien for your reply....

Well i am not in an AD enviroment and the WG mashine can resolve internet names , for example if i configure my firefox no to look at proxy then i can see sites on my browser.
Also i had put manually the dns server of ISP in the dns / wins resolver of WG and nothing
This installation is for a friend, but by the way i have a question to make ...
If we have configure wingate to intercept connection on port 80 and the proxy server listens on both interfaces , that is, local network card and the loopback interface 127.0.0.1 , why should i configure my browser to use proxy on 127.0.0.1 or internal LAN card in order to pass traffic through WG. (if i don't then browser looks directly to the external LAN card and gets internet from there ignoring WG. This can be dangerous because traffic not scanned by Kaspersky. In the past i had virus problem on the WG mashine).

Thanks

If you look in the log file for the WinGate DNS resolver do you see any information in there why it's not working?

Also - you don't have the WWW proxy specified to connect through another upstream proxy do you (in connections tab).

As for your final question, why you need to configure the local browser to go through the proxy? The reason you give is correct, if it doesn't go through the proxy, the proxy can't scan its traffic.
