Wingate 7 viewing user activity

Aug 14 12 8:51 pm

Hi friends,

I am new to Wingate 7. After I setup the proxies for my users, I can view their activity now via activity or timeline tab. I wonder if it is possible to get a report on how much time a user spent on a website. Is this possible? Is there a reporting option like that? I don't really like the timeline thing so please share if you know something.

Thanks.

It is very diffucult to determine how long a user has been at a particular site. You can see when they arrive but when they leave is not always clear.

WinGate can log each URL requested. Each page can load many URLs (pictures, ads, etc). In addition, a page could automatically update itself introducing even more URLs to the log.

So there is no real way to determing when the user has moved on to another page. You would have to know that the URL requested is actually another website rather than just another part of the existing page.

Maybe someone can figure out how to do that but it seems next to impossible.

Hi there.

As far as alternative web site reporting mechanisms that are not Timeline, at the moment we only support W3C logging. With that you would have to run an external log analyser on the output files to get our reports.

However, an accounting and reporting system is on our timeline but we can not give any estimates for it's availability just yet.

Thanks
Aaron
