Hi Wingate Team :)
Will in future wingate can have function like Captive Portal?
that can use for wifi hotspot user.
all user that not registered or their registration expired will forced redirect to captive portal.
maybe in current wingate version we also can setting like that using policy, forced all connection to auth, then create user in user & groups, etc.
but i think user management in wingate have very limited function (can't setup expiry/bandwidth@speed capping, etc)
thanks for feedback.

Hi
you can do the authentication / sign-in page part of a captive portal using WinGate policy and a database (or even a file). Basically how it works is this
1. WinGate intercepts connections
2. checks in a list or database if the client (IP) is authorized
3. if not, divert to a page
4. If yes, allow
in the page, the user is presented with a message about need to log in etc, and a form. If the form is successfully submitted, add the IP to the file or DB.

So that's great you told us the concept, but I'm looking at WinGate now -- seems pretty vague to just say "intercept it". Can anyone explain in some detail? Thanks!

Intercepting a connection involves adding the port number to the intercepts tab of the service you are intercepting to.
by default the WWW proxy should already intercept port 80 connections.
