Hello!!!
We use Wingate as a proxy/mail server.
Until now there was no need to send or receive mail from our homes.
From now on there is a need from some of us to send and receive mail from our server but connecting from our houses so we have to use authentication and Secure connections in both pop3 and smpt services.
The mail client application that we are using is Netscape 7.2
Until now i've made the following actions in order to enable TLS:
1. I generated a certificate *.ach.gr using Wingate
2. In the bindings dialog I enabled TLS for external and
internal onnections using *ach.gr as the certificate
3. I set the Netscape Client to Require TLS
(Use secure connection ---> Outgoing server --> TLS)
When I try to send a mail I get an error indicating that the mail client can't connect to the Wingate server.
The contents of the Wingate log is something like:
date ip Guest 0000050574 Debug: <=S: 220 xxx.gr ESMTP Service ready
date ip Guest 0000050574 Debug: C=>: EHLO [ip]
date ip Guest 0000050574 Debug: <=S: 250-xxx.gr greets you
date ip Guest 0000050574 Debug: <=S: 250-AUTH CRAM-MD5
date ip Guest 0000050574 Debug: <=S: 250-STARTTLS
date ip Guest 0000050574 Debug: <=S: 250 SIZE 0
date ip Guest 0000050574 Debug: C=>: STARTTLS
date ip Guest 0000050574 Debug: <=S: 454 TLS initialisation failed
Thanks.

Hi
that error means WinGate had a problem initialising TLS.
This can be due to
a) inability to retrieve the certificate file name from the certificate manager (very unlikely since you generated the cert in WinGate); or
b) some problem with the certificate itself. This could be something like
* invalid date or expired date in the certificate
* problem decrypting the certificate.
Try re-generating the certificate.

Also, you'll probably want to upgrade to the latest release when we release it because it contains an IMAP server, which is going to make viewing your mail from home a lot easier, all the mail will be stored on the server, so there's no worry about accidently downloading all of your mail to the home machine.

Thank You very much Adrien
The problem was that in the certicication name i entered [*.ach.gr] !!!
I suppose that due to the fact that wingate relates the cetrificate name with the actual file name , it cannot open the certificate file.
Thanks again for the solution.
Dear MattP
We are waiting for IMAP support in wingate. I hope it will be happen soon
Thanks.
