Windows DNS conflicts Wingate DNS ???

Jan 30 06 10:51 pm

I have windows 2000 server installed computer. I cannot start wingate DNS service due to it's conflict port with windows dns. So I cannot connect to the internet without proxy.

If I stop DNS services on windows it is ok but I had other problems on active directory.

Please help !!!

Stop the Wingate DNS server NOT the windows one (if running on the same machine). Then enter your ISPs DNS server in the wingate DNS-Resolver properties. That should work.

If it does not work please describe detailed how you try to connect to the internet (client settings using NAT or HTTP Proxy or...)

Actually I ment wrong. I have no problem connecting internet with proxy.

I tried disabling the windows DNS and activate the wingate DNS, everthing looks ok. I can connect internet without proxy but than I have AD problems.

Is there any way to connect internet without proxy using windows DNS as using wingate DNS?

Hi

For active directory you must use Windows DNS, so you will need to disable WinGate's DNS service.

You can get your Windows DNS server to look up names on the Internet however, there is a forwarders setting in the DNS server that you can point to the DNS server of your ISP, then the windows DNS server will serve Internet names for your LAN as well, and your proxying should work fine.
