I continue to have this problem with Wingate incorrectly determining that a Gateway is dead and disabling that gateway. There is nothing wrong with my NIC or the ISP, Windows XP does not complain or drop the link it works fine, but Wingate for wahtever reason does not like it. This wreaks havoc with my VPN connection to work and programs that need to maintain a connection to the database. When will this problem be fixed?

Hi
What sort of gateway is it? Is it something on your LAN, or dialup, or what?
The detection method is an ARP request for the IP of the gateway. If the gateway chooses not to respond, WinGate may deem it to be dead.
You can turn off dead gateway detection if it is causing problem in the Extended Networking configuration in GateKeeper.

Actually I have two external Gateways, one is on a Cable Modem, and that one continuously cycles Dead/Alive Dead/Alive, but only in the Wingate application, the OS never sees a problem with the Gateway. The other external Gateway is on a Canopy System and it periodically will be declared dead by the Wingate application, again the OS sees no problem with the Gateway and continues to work. I can hook either of these connections to any PC in my house and they work fine and never experience a problem. I have previously tried to turn off the Dead Gateway detection, but it still seems to have the problem, just that the Gateway does not get the (Dead) tag in the Network tab.

Anyway turning off the Monitor for Dead Gateway in Extended Networking does not do anything except remove the Tag. If the Wingate Application decides the Gateway is bad it stops all traffic to that Gateway. What is the most frustrating thing is all I need to do to restore the Gateway is unplug and then plug back in the ethernet cable into the NIC. I have tried different NICs different cables, it all is the same...very frustrating.

That's very odd. I think something else must be going on, since if monitoring for dead gateways is turned off, WinGate assumes all LAN-based gateways to be available, and all dialup-based ones to be available if the dialup is connected.
Are you using gateway settings in any proxies as well?

It is early in the morning and my brain is still a little foggy, what should I be looking for in gateway settings in proxies?

Just if you are using it, i.e. are you using multiple gateways in the proxies?
I'm just wondering what else could be going on to give you problems.

Yes I am using multiple proxies, and on the WWW Proxy Service I have it directed to the Cable gateway primarily and that works fine for the WWW access. My VPN and my wifes AIM always go to the Canopy connection as does the email traffic. So when my wife does not have her email I hear it.

Is there anything I can do to give you guys a look at what may be happening? This is just very frustrating to see this happen. I don't care if you find that I am doing something wrong, I would just like to get this fixed.
Thanks

Do you have remote desktop on that system?
One of our techs could log in, and have a look for problems.
