WinGate Engine Keeps Hanging

Feb 24 06 4:02 am

I have a customer who has recently started experiencing WinGate hanging at least once a day. v6.1.1
We've gone through the standard troubleshooting... history files deleted, settings checked etc.
I can't see what the problem is. I have the WinGate config file, the LockDumpAnalysisEng.txt and the WinGate NAT log that I can send to you.
Disabling NAT makes no difference.

Thanks

If you can send them to me, that would be great. At the time when WinGate hangs, what connectivity is possible, both from the WinGate server itself and through it?

1. Can a GateKeeper connection be established?
2. Can DNS lookups be done?
3. Is any activity through it possible?
4. Do they use the IMAP server at all?

Also, what does memory useage / handle count look like?

WinGate Engine Shutting Down

Feb 24 06 10:25 am

Hi Pascal,

Thanks for the response.
His first indication of a problem is that the WinGate users are no longer able to connect. When he tries to login to Gatekeeper he gets the response “There was an error connecting to the server. No data was received from the server during authentication.”

He looks at the task manager and sees that wingate.exe using 904,000 of memory. He tried to stop engine but had to end process in task manager, then restart the engine to get wingate to work again. This is happening at least once a day.

I have resent the files to you. Please check to make sure you got them as I have sent them before a couple of times and did not get a response.

Connectivity is still available from the Server. I didn't check on DNS.

Thanks Again!

Joan

Hi Joan,

Who did you send them to? I haven't received anything as of yet (Including the latest resend). But that definately has the classic symptoms of a deadlock; although that memory useage sounds very high. Normally I'd expect WinGate to run in the 10mb to 30mb range with modest traffic going through it.

We have identified a potential problem with the IMAP server; if they are using that it could possibly be related.

[address removed]. Can't find anything in our logs for the past three days from you to here, it hasn't been flagged / quarantined either so not quite sure where that went.

Ok, I haven't received anything there yet. Can you try sending *from* a different address, please?
