Use Two External Connections

Apr 29 06 6:56 pm

Hi all,

I want to use two External connections through wingate can u help me out with following senario.

I am using a cable Connection connected with Ethernet in my server. It is set as External Adapter by Wingate. Now I have also installed a DSL connection for Backup purpose thru USB port. That DSL Adapter is set as Internal by Wingate currently.

What should I do that, when cable goes offline it should start using DSL? Also should I manually set DSL Adapter as External as well? That will make two External Adapters, then which one will be used by Wingate for users. I use proxy for internet at client machines.

Both the Connections stay on at all times i-e I do not switch them off.

Consideration: When cable goes Offline, the cable Ethernet Adapter will still show connected. How can Wingate check if it is receiving bytes from a certain connection and switch to other connection. Both use Static IPs.

I have the same set.

Make sure your ADSL is set as external (don't know why it isn't if it has a default gateway)

Wingate will use the default connection for ENS by default (unless you change the metric in wingate or the adapter order in windows)

Make sure the 'Dead Gateway detection' is ticked in the ENS Settings and it will fall-over to the ADSL if the cable goes out

- Only thing is, that it won't return to the cable when it comes back up.
(I have to disable/reenable the ADSL adapter for it to reset)

Thanks SShowron

Sorry for replying late, I was away for vacation so I left the ADSL as it was.

Well only Cable is set as External automatically, can I give different Default Gateway for both external Connections. would it make some problem.

Yes, this seems to be the solution, I will make the changes as suggested by you. and then come back with the result.
