Don't use WinGate for local IP adresses

May 24 06 11:07 pm

Hello,

what do I have to do, that WinGate 6.1.2 isn't used, if a local IP adress is the target adress?
We are useing the IE 6.0 with the java login for WinGate.
At the IE it is configured, that the proxy server should not be used for local adresses.

hi Steven

Normally IE bases its decision on whether a site is local or not based on its knowledge of the IP address it is connecting to, vs what its local network settings are.

But if you have IE configured to use a proxy, then it won't be resolving target sites to IP addresses, and therefore can't make that distinction.

If you access these internal sites by IP address, does it then still go through the proxy?

Another way I believe is to use proxy auto-config (PAC) files. You can modify the PAC file that WinGate will server for proxy auto configuration, and in these files you can specify which sites to use or not a proxy for.

Regards

Adrien

Hello Adrien,

thanks for the reply. I chenged the proxy configuration of the IE and now it works. But I have to change all PCs at our company. :-(
I'll try to use the proxy auto-config (PAC) files as another possibility.
