Traffic Quotas

Hello ...

I have a Win2000-Domain with 40 Users. I am looking for a possibility to set traffic quotas for each users, so that every user for example can cause 500 MB of traffic per month. If he exhausted it, his internet access is blocked for the rest of the month.

It should be possible to set individual quotas for each user.

Is that possible with WinGate?

I use this in conjuction with Wingate and it works a treat. No user based support, but works on Mac Addresses/IP Address and has volume based quota system.

I thought using User Accounting feature could simply do this? Just be more creative..

User Accounting? Sorry, but my trial version of WinGate has expired, so I can't test it. And before I buy the product I have to know, that it works ...

It is possible to set this up with WinGate using a combination of policies and user accounting. If you want an extention of the trial, drop me an email or contact our support team with the trial license ID you used to activate your system.

(If you try to reactivate it will tell you what the ID was as well)

What you want to do is:

1. Setup a policy (System Policies) to say "This right is granted if User: AccountBalance" less than somevalue"

2. Setup a scheduled event to monthly execute the action "Reset All User Accounts".

3. Ensure your users are always properly identified (Assumptions, etc.)

4. Ensure that your users are always having that policy applied to them (Careful use of System Policies, essentially)

If you are keen on trying this again, you can get in touch with us during the trial period to help you setup this and ensure it works the way you're expecting it to work. (And it gets you in the loop for the future plans that Adrien highlighted)

Hello,

I prefer to have a total time set for the user. Now we need to alocate the time from... to... etc. Instead user can access x hrs a day any time. - possible?

Time is a problem.

You want to limit maybe your users to 2hrs surfing a day, but the process of surfing is that users retrieve a page (that may only take a second), and read it for 10 minutes.

So the total time used for downloading stuff is not an accurate representation of how long people are surfing the web. It's miles out.

So, setting a window of time when access is available is about the only way, unless you use the WinGate client, in which case since it is loaded when the user is running the app, you can be counting all the time that the app is running.
