Wingate 7 VPN

Jul 02 13 4:58 am

Hello,

I've installed the VPN node on a Windows server behind a firewall, setup port forwarding, etc. but I'm having problems setting up my clients. I don't see any directions on how to setup a Windows 7 or Ubuntu 12.04 laptop to connect to the VPN server as a participant. These are just workstations that are used out in the field. I've tried setting it up using the Windows VPN client and PPTP without success. I have seen some references to the WIngate VPN client but I at a loss as to where i can download that from.

Can someone provide directions to setup these laptops?

Thanks,

Russ

Hi Russ,

Sorry it's taken so long to get you a reply. There isn't a separate client installation, just install the main WinGate package. If you activate a free license on the laptop then you'll effectively get a single user VPN license which will enable you to join a WinGate VPN. WinGate won't run on Linux.

On the WinGate VPN host machine you need to configure a VPN to host, including specifying a user who has permissions to connect. The remote joiners must use the user credentials that you used for the host to connect.

You can either export the VPN config file from the host and import it into the joiner, or you can configure a VPN to join manually.
