Questions on stand alone Kapersky anti-virus and WinGate 6.1

Aug 11 06 1:28 pm

HMMMMM Is there a problem with Win gate and running a stand alone kaperksy anti virus. I downloaded a trial and it killed Wingate and now Wingate will not load properly and when I deleted and tried reloading wingate it refuses to load the ENS driver. Help..........

Okay a few more details on my problem.

I was running Wingate 6.1.1 but downloaded 6.1.4 and running that now. When Wingate begins the cpu usage shoots too 100 percent and stays there, with much difficulty I found that my client pc was searcing for dns, for aol and for a few other things and was just pounding my host pc. I finally saw this on the activity screen and it was moving so fast it was like unbeleivable. I shut down my wifes pc and that stopped the attack. Okay lol what is going on, I had some problems after I loaded Kapersky 6.0 standalone, but I have since deleted that in a search for what has gone wrong. It has been a few months since I have messed with the ip assignments and such and I really need some help getting this resolved. I did turn in a trouble ticket but have yet to get a response. I am just a home user with two pcs so please if you offer help, be as so kind to bring it down a few levels, the last time I had a problem it was so over my head I just gave up.......

This sounds suspiciously like a DNS loop, is there a DNS server running on your network? The Wingate DNS service is a caching only DNS proxy, if you have configured a DNS server to forward to the Wingate machine, then configured the Wingate DNS resolver to forward to the Network DNS server it creates a DNS loop, which seems to be what you are describing.

HMMMMM

Well after I went through the settings and again configured them to my system standard. It stopped, thank god. I do beleive your idea was correct, a loop was somehow setup. I still havent been about to get an answer in regards to stand alone antivirus software and if there any other anti virus that have plugins for wingate??

100 % cpu useage back now its my aol.

Okay browsers on my host pc are loading pages aka displaying pages super slow, my client pc can not access the internet. One of my isp connection software is now running at 100 % cpu time so i have had to turn off wingate again. This is starting to be more of a major pain then a passing irritant.

I am going to reload my isp software, then do a reload of wingate, guys if this doesnt fix the problem I will be romoving the Wingate and going to buy a router, this is just past the point of me having to spend hours sorting something out that with a lil real time support could take mins.

Hi

check other post re remote assistance.

Also, have you recently done a spyware scan or AV scan on that machine? Some viruses play havoc with your machine like that.
