Hi,
I need help in comparing how good is wingate compared to winproxy. Could anybody give me some pointer on why Wingate is better than WinProxy. Below are some of WinProxy good points.
1) Easy to set up using wizard.
2) Preconfigured firewall rules and easy to configure firewall rules.
3) Friendly user interface
4) Scan ftp, pop, smtp, http and socks protocol (Instant Messaging)
5) I have lots of problem in setting up Wingate to scans ftp, pop and smtp but using WinProxy, just followed the wizard and voila all traffic are being scans.
6) Basic web filtering and anti spam rules (adequate for sme)
7) AV supported (Panda, Sophos, McAfee)
8) Ability to control which protocol a certain user can access at what time, all done by ip address.
9) AccessLite, even if your pc is configured wrongly you will still be able to surf the internet.

Winproxy Vs Wingate

We moved from Winproxy to Wingate based on the user controls.
The remaining features are pretty much like for like, but the user controls (from V4, can't speak for v5) were very weak, relying on static IP addressing to control user access.

The only major plus I can give Winproxy over Wingate is the
content filtering - much much more comprehensive and accurate.
Gatefilter/Puresight needs to improve drastically - blocking a site/page
because it contains the word 'Amateur' is, in my humble opnion, poor.

Mark.

Wingate

I think Wingate has too much advantage in the quality of the configurations, the amplitude of the options besides the all-in-one solution in my case an humble opinion it is only comparable with Microsoft ISA.

Obviously as all the network solutions that permanently are evolutioning to satisfy the clients, the Wingate has a long road to walk, but that it is the reality of all the internet products faced to the always-growning comunities around the globe.

Finally, every internet sharing solution has the pros and the cons, and the better is alway wich fits better the IT adm requirements.

Thanks (and sorry for the english)

Javier
