Help! Wingate email proxy problem

Our setup in the office is like the scenario 1 of the Wingate email configuration. I would like to set the Wingate as proxy for POP3 and SMTP. The problem is the Outlook of the client computers prompt username and password each time they attempt to send/receive mails. It looks like that they are unable to connect to the local mail server.

Please help, I'm just new to Wingate. What setting I might have missed that triggers this problem?

Please review the levels of authentication you have set for the SMTP and POP3 Servers in WinGate, and the System policies if the SMTP/POP3 Servers interact with them.

To test if you deem it safe, add the Everyone group, user may be unknown to the SMTP and POP3 Servers in WinGate - and set the default rights to “Are ignored”.

Thanks for the reply. Already followed your second instruction, but still get the same result.

Where can I view the level of authentication of the POP3 and SMTP?

GateKeeper --> SMTP --> Policies --> *User or Groups Recipient tab*
GateKeeper --> POP3 --> Policies --> *User or Groups Recipient tab*

If you are still having problem then you will want to turn on Debug logging for the Servers/Services you are connecting to in WinGate.

If you are connecting via WinGate's POP3 / SMTP Server (which I presume) then turn on the debug logging in there.

If you are connecting via WinGate's POP3 / SMTP Proxies then turn on the debug logging in there.

Once the debug logging is on then recreate the error by trying to connect to the email server / proxy and then review the extra details in the relevant log files within C:\Program Files\WinGate\Logs


If you are still having problems then you may want to create a support ticket and send in the following details and reference this forum post:

1. WinGate Registry.
GateKeeper --> Options menu --> Advanced --> Save Registry

2. WinGate Config Report
GateKeeper --> Options menu --> Advanced --> Save Config Report

3. ipconfig/all from the WinGate Server
(Windows) Start menu --> Run --> cmd --> ipconfig/all >> C:\ipa.txt
