Version protection expiry date

What does "version protection expiry date" mean? I found this message in the Licence Maintenance Wizard saying it has already expired.

Hi Jorge

version protection (used to be called upgrade protection) is a policy that comes with all WinGate and WinGate VPN licences since v6.0, and provides free version updates whilst you are in the term.

At the moment, we have a special on where you can renew your version protection for the same price whether it is expired or not. This gives you another year of free version updates. It's more interesting now since we are working on our next major version for release early Q2 07.
