Wingate works but no local Network access

Dec 06 03 1:21 am

I installed Wingate 5.0 and every client machine connects to Internet thru it properly with NAT but since then we have NO local communication between the PC where Wingate server is and the others although there are many shared folders in this machine. The strange thing is that all the client PCs connects thru the Wingate server but we cannot ping it.
We need to have access to this PC (server) locally as we always did.

We use Windows 98 in all the local PCs. The server uses 90.0.0.1 and the others use a correlative IP number. We never had problems using this kind of IP with other proxies.

Any suggestion? Thanks
Andy

Andy,

The IP address range you are using 90.0.0.x is in the "Public" range. The WinGate firewall is assuming systems communicating on that range are not trusted.

You can try 2 things.

1. Recommended if possible - re-number you systems using IP addresses in the "Private" range.

2. Open Gatekeeper - Options - Advanced - Network Interfaces - double click on 90.0.0.1 - uncheck "interface is visable from the Internet" and check "computers connected to this network are presumed trustworthy"

Let us know how it goes.

Thank you Larry,

I did what you told me but I suppose I have to restart Wingate or something because I still havent got access locally.
Which range of IPs are Private ?

Easiest for you to use, and strongly recommended by WinGate, would be

192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.255

with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
