Hi
I have set up a WinGate server on WinXP SP2 and NAT is working fine.
The problem is that I cannot acess the server (access the shares) anymore from my LAN clients as I used to do before.
The server cannot see/find itself in Network Places!
What can this be?
Configuration Lan NIC:
IP: 192.168.0.1
SubNet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: -
DNS server: 127.0.0.1
WINS Panel:
LMHOSTS: deactivated
NetBios over TCP/IP: activated
Additional infos:
- Client for Microsoft Network: installed & checked
- Firewalls (Windows & WinGate): deactivated
- Computer Browser Service: started
- Ping is working
- I tried to disable ICS in the registry (Start=3) but after boot I get again (Start=2)
Thanks,
Pit

You shouldn't need a DNS server value on the LAN side of the WG server. Can you ping by machine name? Usually when machine cannot see itself in Network places it is a TCP/IP settings issue.

Ok after a few hours I found the problem...
I probably accidentally touched the "bindings" in WinGate
That somehow removed bindings for the NetbiosSmb and for the NetBT_Tcpip device (I saw it using NET CONFIG SERVER command).
NetBios over TCP/IP was still activated and uncheck/recheck it did not help
So finnally I had to do a NETSH INT IP RESET command... and reinstall all the software I did deinstall ;)
Cheers,
Pit
