DNS Problem

Feb 23 07 9:03 pm

Hi all. I have a problem with WinGate (latest version), and I can't seem to found a solution anywhere.
WinGate is installed on a PC with one NIC that has 2 IP addresses, one for the internet and one for the internal network. On this PC I also have Apache installed, so I've setup the WWW proxy to another port than 80. Everything is working fine on the client computer, except for one thing. On the server PC I also have ISC BIND installed (I have a web site hosted here, and also the DNS server). Somehow, I think that WinGate doesn't get along with BIND, because if I access that hosted web site from the client computer, the internet doesn't work after that, and I have to restart the WinGate engine. As long as I don't access that page, everything is ok.
I don't know what seems to be the issue, because from what I see BIND is mapped to the 953 port, not 53 like WinGate. Or maybe I am wrong. What can I do about this?
FYI, I only have the DNS and WWW proxy services enabled in WinGate, I don't need anything else, and they are set to bind on both IP's of the server and the loopback interface. Is this ok?
Thank you.

Any real reason why not have two nics with one IP each.

Probably would run smoother that way.

I know, but the server pc is very far from the switch, and I only have one cable...anyway, it worked without problems on one nic, the questions is what can I do about this DNS issue? :(

Hi

If you're running BIND on that machine, you should disable the DNS service in WinGate, otherwise it will conflict with BIND.

You only need one DNS server on that machine.

Hi adrien. I've already tried that, but if I disable the DNS service in WinGate, browsing on the client computer doesn't work, only my hosted website works. By the way, I now have 2 nic's on the server pc, one with the internet settings and another one with just the LAN ip and subnet mask. How can I make this work without stoppind the BIND service?
Thank you.
