downgrading to 5.0.10; 5.2.* smtp fails

Jan 01 04 1:25 am

I had WG 5.0.10 running fine when I learned that 5.2 and somewhat later 5.2.2 were released. My setup does not include a pop or smtp server. All mail should go directly to the external smtp servers.

First I installed 5.2 and noticed that smtp was delaying mail delivery. Then that 5.2.2 does not deliver mail at all. Mail would be sitting in the outbox, apparently with no way to go. So I went back to 5.0.10 and, presto, all mail found their way.

The only configuration I did was setting the scope for the dhcp server and securing the system policy for internal users.

I am using adsl, non-ras, with an AZTECH adsl modem, win2k server and winxp clients.

Yes. Previously I used an internal mail server but abandoned it and disabled the servers.

Now that's strange. Seems as if SMTP is intercepting mail even though it's disabled.

Can you check the Port assignments in Extended Neworking - Port Security - and see if Port 25 is being redirected?

Check that those services aren't disabled on startup. In WG go to services and check startup configuration. Are they set to Manual start/stop or Service is disabled? I think that usually they are disabled if you did not select Mail server option on install.

sorry for the late response, but I have not added any ports assignments inport security. Since the email servers are not used, which I would like to do for this small office, I did not feel that necessary.
