Mail Server on 6.0

Aug 20 04 2:22 am

I would like to know what the "gotchas" are for the mail server when upgrading to 6.0 from 5.2x? I made one attempt and found that the server could no longer be reached. Wingate gave no indication that there was a problem either. Not having any time to play with the settings I reverted back ro 5.23 and all was well again. I know that there were changes made to Wingate regarding the mail server but should it not have duplicated the environment I had before the upgrade? Anyway, before I attempt the upgrade again I would just like to know if there is anything specific to look out for. Thanks.

Mostly adapters. The vast majority of problems we are seeing recently deal with the setup of adapters' "Internal" vs "External" states. Not sure about mail server itself - I believe all of that should migrate, but I'm sure one of the mail gurus will post here shortly.

As Pascal says, the main one to look out for is the adapter usage and service bindings.

We actually display a message in the installer (marked "WinGate 6.0 IMPORTANT") which outlines which settings you should verify after upgrading.

Other things to check are:

1. Gateways have replaced Interfaces for a service. These now take into account the next hop MAC address, not just the local interface, so now support multiple gateways per adapter. This is a better reflection of the reality of internet connections.

2. Mail. There are a couple of changes with mail, mainly now that aliases have been replaced by "address handlers", and address handlers belong to a domain, rather than being independent. This was necessary to support mail routing options. We do migrate previous alias settings to address handlers within domains, so the migrated settings should function in the same way as before.
