traffic shaping

Postby starlick » Sep 02 04 7:45 pm

I have a few computers at home connected via dsl router

It all works well, but if someone uses p2p the network gets flooded obviously and anyone trying to surf the web gets huge delays and pings can get up to 15000ms etc....

So.... I'm currnently hunting around to see what things can do..

What I am wondering is what Wingate can do in this area..

can i limit bandwidth by ip/port by source or destination?
If i can, can i say always give this ip/port xx amount of bandwidth but allow them up to xx if there is more available.

can i give traffic queues priority etc?

If this currently is not available are there any plans to look at this type of things in the near future?

Genie is the best person to talk about bandwidth throttling. However, WinGate lets you configure it's bandwidth throttling rules by source ip, port and destination ip and port. There are different levels of priority and you can allow either a fixed limit of traffic OR a percentage of available bandwidth. (So as more / less becomes available, it will adjust)

You can download WinGate 6.0 and use a 30-day trial to evaluate and see if meets all your needs.
