Firewall doesn't handle any connections from dsl interface

Postby killabee » Sep 10 04 5:27 am

I have a dsl connection through the cable modem. I have real ip address, but after I dial up the modem firewall doesn't see any connections from the internet, and so it simply allows all connections. While other programmes, ip-tools e. g. show different connections from the "outside" :). What is the solution of the problem?

What is the adapter usage of the adapter connected to the cable modem?

This would need to be set to External for it to firewall things.

What do u mean by "adapter usage"? Sorry, I didn't understand...
Where and what I have to set to "External"?

PS: Wingate takes DSL traffic as local traffic, because when I switch off "Allow users to ping this machine locally" is shows it at once in firewall log. In the network interfaces window I have the following options for my dial-up connection to cabel modem
Public: yes
Trusted: no

Adapter usage is how WinGate treats an adapter. E.g is it external (connected to an untrusted network like the Internet), or internal (connected to your LAN).

You can see the setting on the Network tab in GateKeeper, and if you need to change it, double click the adapter and set it to the usage you want.

Regards

That's correct - I assume you are using WG 5.x - make sure that your DSL adapter is public/not trusted.

hmm... u know i don't see the dsl adapter in the list of interfaces either... i guess this is because only PPPoE protocol is binded to it in its properties.
But when tcp/ip was binded to it too and I saw it in the list, and it was public and not trusted - the result was just the same.
Now I see only dial-up connection that is used to connect to cable modem. It is public and not trusted too.
My internet provider told me that only PPPoE protocol must be binded to the dsl adapter (no tcp or smth else...).
Something strange is happening... :)

It had certain difficulties handling PPPoE due to the fact that PPPoE requires smaller MTU values.

So, I guess, the only way is to change to WG6?
Ok. Thanx. I'll try. If I have problems again, I'll return. :)

Wow!!! It works!!! Great!!! :)
What does it mean that status of dsl adapter is "disabled"? It's because it doesn't handle tcp/ip?

No - if the adapter is functional that it's just the satet which is reported incorrectly by the system wrapper.

What is system wrapper? :)
It's a pity, but now I'm using trial license, which I requested from your server. :(
I guess, I have to buy one in the future? ;) In 30 days I guess...

One of the sources of WIngate knowledge when it comes to various system objects are different wrappers, IPHelper, for one - sometimes it reports incorrect states for the adapters.

Aye, I reckon you are doomed to buy a license after all :)

I guess you are right... But what license I need? Must think... :))
Hey, I have such an idea. There're dufferent columns in the firewall log, but there's no "size" of packets received. I think this may be very interesting. How do u think?

Installed PureSight... Really cool... Tested on crackz.am which opens some porno-pages... It works :)
But I thought it would have more options :(
Are there any more options except those I can see in the plug-ins->puresight window?

You mean the site would have more options?

No, not really. The new version will have a few more options, but you are basically limited in what you can 'configure' for it.

It's a pity. I expected some options for... For example some kind of banners with different sizes... Different manual settings, which allow to specify size of images to prohibit.. Different settings for content filtering... And so on...

It's not an add/image blocker, though. It's based on PureSight Ltd's AI system.

So what did you have in mind for different settings for content filtering, etc.?

I ment image-filtering. Banners and so on... :) Not only sex and gambling content, but adv-banners on normal sites.
