Bandwidth Control Question

Postby shimurlz » Sep 23 04 6:14 pm

Hi ! I use Winagate 6.0.2 (1001) and i want to use the bandwidth control feature. I want to control only the bandwidth for the internet of a client IP to 25% of the total bandwidth. How to do this ? I read the help, but i still have doubts about the source/destination IP in the Rules tab. The source/destination IP have to be same ? Or Source is the server IP and destination is the client IP ? Or vice-versa ? The wingate server IP is 192.168.0.1 and the client IP is 192.168.0.2. Subnet 255.255.255.0 for both. P.S. I use wingate as NAT to share a dial-up connection, i don't use wingate client on client machine. It would be nice if the help had examples situations.

Try the following steps:

1. Create a restriction which says "Allow 25%".
2. Create a rule, that uses this restriction and applies to local machine traffic as well.
3. In the address part of the rule mark the rule as bi-directional and set the destination address to be 192.168.0.2/255.255.255.255, any port

That should do the trick.

this will apply to the traffic to/from 192.168.0.2 (provided that the bi-directional checkbox is checked, otherwise only packets being sent _TO_ the client will be throttled). If you want to throttle the entire network you can simply change the mask to 255.255.255.0 - in that case you may consider adding another rule for your administrative machine which will be allowed unlimited traffic bandwidth.
